SSH Telnet
What is SSH? How to manage a server via SSH?
SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a web server and execute various tasks through a command line. The protocol is employed by many expert users, as the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access may be used for a lot of things with regards to the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the server allows it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH could be used for virtually anything - you can install software or restart specific services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients which permit you to use the protocol if your computer is running a different Operating System as well. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port though a lot of providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Website Hosting
SSH access is available with all
Linux shared website hosting packages that we offer. With some of them, it's included as standard, while with others it's an additional upgrade which you can add with a couple of mouse clicks in your website hosting Control Panel. You can obtain SSH access through the section dedicated to it where you can also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can pick the password which you'll use and, if necessary, you'll be able to modify it with a couple of mouse clicks from the same place. All commands which may be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is allowed for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
SSH access is available by default with some of our
semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you could add it from the hosting CP if needed - even only for the current month. In any case, you can activate and de-activate the feature with a single mouse click through the SSH section of the CP. In the same location, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You will also find a box in which you may type in the password that you'd like to use, since it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you may also change it as much as you want. A complete list of the commands which can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and several instances. An extra feature after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports such connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Web Hosting
The
virtual private server offers we offer provide SSH access as standard, not as an additional upgrade or a feature that you must activate. As soon as your new server is prepared, you will be able to connect and begin working on your content via the login details which you have entered during the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via email too. As your VPS will be isolated from the others on the physical web server, there are no limitations regarding what you can or cannot do through SSH. You can download, install and manage any piece of software that'll run on a Linux hosting server, reboot the entire server or only a certain software component, and work with files, folders and databases with no restrictions. All you will require for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
