Dot NAME Domains

Launched in 2001, the .NAME universal extension is the only one intended for personal sites only. These domains can be personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other labels people are famous by. At the beginning, solely third-level registrations were possible, so if you desired to reserve john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Already grabbed 3rd-level names remained operational.
